The $10 Art Project
Here's the deal. I make marks. Sometimes these marks are with
paint, sometimes with ink, occasionally with amalgams of carbon
or wax. My work is expressionist, brut, symbolist, pop,
calligraphic, and surreal all at once. I am fond of it; not everyone
is. Regardless, let's get to the meat of things.
I have a proposition for you. It is multi-part. Dig.
(1) You send me ten bucks and a self-addressed stamped
envelope - if you'd like, you can include a single word inspiration
that may, in point of fact, be flatly ignored. Other included mail
(letters, etc.) will be read, but not until after the work of art is
completed. You can mail this to:

(2) I do an original work of art for you - if you don't know what my
work looks like, dig on this - put the art in the envelope you sent
me that was stamped and self-addressed (if it doesn't fit, I'll fold it
- it gives it character, worry not). I will then "mail" this to you. Art
that I particularly like, I'll post a scan or photo of on my website. If
the art requires commentary in my opinion, I'll write some for you
and include it.
(3) Finally, I will donate half of the money to an Appalachian
institution of higher learning (don't worry, I'll tell you which one
and announce each month's collections on this website).
That's it. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic. You get art, I get five
bucks to put into a nice saving account for a rainy day (and a
minor ego trip), and Appalachian higher ed gets a bump. You
gotta' love that jonx.
And remember - even if you don't buy my art, buy original art. If
you want photographic reproductions of Dali and Van Gogh,
great. Buy a book, like I did and look at it when you want to look
at it. There are living artists who need your support.
